Church Under the Bridge

Food Preparation on Sat. June 21

Service & Worship on Sun. June 22

Please mark your calendars for Sunday, June 22. Members of FPC Bonham will gather early that morning and head for Waco to serve a hot meal for the approximately 200 homeless and marginalized people who come to worship at the inter-denominational Church Under the Bridge. After the meal we will worship with this diverse congregation that believes it is called "to provide acceptance and access for those who often are excluded from mainstream churches."

Church Under the Bridge is a full-fledged church that holds its worship services under a bridge off I-35 in Waco. It was started to meet the need to provide worship for the homeless there. Mission Waco, a separate non-denominational organization arranges meals for the homeless before the worship service each week. The Youth Ministry Committee of Grace Presbytery committed to provide those meals each 4th Sunday of the month and that is how First Presbyterian Church in Bonham connected with Church Under the Bridge.

Those who are able to help prepare the food should meet in the kitchen of the Fellowship Hall on Saturday, June 21. More details will be in the June newsletter. If you have questions, please contact Carol Amlin at 903-583-2425 or camlin@verizon.net

More information can be found at www.churchunderthebridge.org or www.missionwaco.org

Sound & Powerpointers

I would like to send out an "SOS" for sound and PowerPoint volunteers. It is not a difficult job....even I can do it! So if I can, I know you can! This is an important facet of our worship services, so if you are
interested in serving in this capacity, please contact me and we'll get you trained ASAP! Thanks, Susan Toland

MEMBER NEWS

As of newsletter press time, Jodi Amlin is resting comfortably, but not so patiently, in the hospital in Plano.    The doctor wants her to make it to at least 34 weeks which would be April 28.    She is still in Presbyterian Plano - contact info below.    Thanks for all your prayers and concerns.    We feel confident that Reed Louis Amlin and Reese Thomas Amlin will be healthy and happy on arrival!  On the last sonogram about a week ago, Reed weighed 3 lbs 11 oz, and Reese weighed 4 lbs 9 oz.

Bobby Blain is in Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs, Room 5636. He was having flu-like symptoms, but tests have revealed a large mass in his lung that has wrapped around the esophagus, trachea, and pulmonary
artery. Doctors fear the mass is inoperable. He will have a biopsy done on Friday, and after results are received a treatment plan will be determined.

Jennifer moved to Colorado Springs about two weeks ago, after her plans to go to England changed - so at least she is there with the family as they face this difficult time.

The hospital numbers are (719) 365-5000 or (800) 826-4889. Sam Lumpkins can provide you with Rhonda's cell phone number if you would like to call. Sam will keep us updated on Bobby's condition. Please keep the Blain family in your prayers.

WITH SYMPATHY...

Our prayers and sympathy to the family of Audrey McAlister who recently passed away at the tender age of 100.

Opportunities

Dear FPC Family and Friends,

Words fail me!  (you'll find that surprising, I suspect)  Thank you SO MUCH for the WONDERFUL going-away party you threw for us.  None of the four Watsons will ever forget our last Easter Sunday with you.  But that roast!  I'm so glad to know that you all only believe half of what Glenn Taylor has to say...

Seriously, it was a delight.  I didn't know the Choir had so much soul! I didn't know Lisa and Sam had so few teeth. I *did* know, however, how creative and resourceful you all are to pull off such an evening.  We will treasure it always.  And, thank you to whoever thought of having Bill Bennett capture the night for us on DVD. I'm so glad to be able to watch it now and remember.

We are all doing fine - the boxes are in the house if not all unpacked yet; the tornadoes have stopped swirling around us at least for the time being; the kids are enrolled in their new school and making friends; and I am undergoing a learning curve that's just about as steep as our new driveway. When you come to visit, bring mountain goats with you. Although we miss you, we are glad to be here and doing just great.

Thanks again for everything, dear ones.  Please let us hear from you.  love, Sallie
